Michel Foucault traced the origins in Discipline and Punish at how punishment has changed and cycled throughout history. Body and Soul is based on the idea of the prisoner left alone to “rehabilitate” themselves as well as surveillance. What does the prisoner hope for? Salvation or death? One can only guess.
